People who support PETA even after they learn about their mass killing and embrace of abusive shelters don’t love animals and they know it.
The more shelters that are brought into the 21st century, the more PETA loses the ability to hide behind a 19th century model of catch and kill sheltering. And they will not allow that to happen without a fight.
In November of 2009, ASPCA President Ed Sayres ordered the killing of Oreo, an abused dog who had an immediate place to go. Pets Alive of New York, a No Kill sanctuary near the ASPCA which specializes in rehabilitating aggressive dogs (and, if that proves impossible, safely caring for them for the rest of their lives), contacted the ASPCA to ask if they could save Oreo. They made numerous telephone calls and sent numerous e-mails.…
Over 700 shelters and other organizations, including some of the largest animal control shelters have pledged to make this the safest day for animals in shelters this century.
PETA does not represent the public interest nor do they represent the animals’ interests. They represent the interest of a deeply disturbed individual who has sought out and killed over 27,000 animals over the last decade.
When you donate to PETA, you not only fund the killing of animals, you fund the intimidation of animal lovers.
Perhaps we shouldn’t sell ourselves short in terms of how far we have truly come. Rather than talk about the 35 or so communities which are saving more than 90%, maybe we should be talking about what potentially is hundreds of No Kill cities and towns across America.
The claims that No Kill has failed in Austin being sounded by naysayers is greatly exaggerated. The question is whether the City rises to the challenge and commits itself to avoiding these problems in the future as it has proved time and time again in the past, it can.
Long before “voluntary” recalls were initiated in the latest round, the companies peddling their poisoned food knew about the problems. The FDA also knew. The only ones who didn’t know were us.
